1945年，匈牙利籍法国作曲家约瑟夫·寇斯玛（Joseph Kosma）在法国创作了香颂《秋叶》（法语：Les Feuilles mortes，意为：The Dead Leaves），词作者是法国超现实主义诗人雅克•普雷维尔（Jacques Prévert）。
到了1947年，美国创作人强尼·莫瑟（Johnny Mercer）为这首歌填了英文歌词。后来，这首歌曲逐渐在英法双语领域成为流行歌曲和爵士歌曲的标杆之作，很多歌手翻唱过这首歌。
